Leading Expert on Arts & Economic Development to Speak in Auburn
Auburn’s Historic & Cultural Sites Commission is sponsoring a lecture by Randy Cohen, Vice President of Policy & Research at Americans for the Arts on December 3, 2009 at 3PM at Auburn Public Theater. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be followed by a public reception from 4 – 5:30PM.
Cohen’s recent work includes the two benchmark economic studies of the arts industry—“Arts & Economic Prosperity 3,” the national economic impact study of nonprofit arts organizations and their audiences; and “Creative Industries,” a statistical mapping study of the nation’s arts businesses using Dun & Bradstreet data.
In 2006, he launched the National Arts Policy Roundtable in partnership with Robert Redford and the Sundance Preserve, a convening of national leaders who focus on issues critical to the advancement of American culture.
As a spokesman for Americans for the Arts, Randy has given speeches in 48 states and regularly appears in the news media—including the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and on CNN and NPR.
Americans for the Arts is the nation's leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts in America with more than 5,000 organizational and individual members and stakeholders across the country.
The lecture is co-sponsored by the Arts District Study Committee, under a grant from the Kauffman Foundation and Cayuga Community College. The committee is researching the potential feasibility of creating an arts district to promote Auburn’s arts and cultural resources.
