Auburn’s Historic & Cultural Sites Commission and the Downtown BID introduced the new brand, “Auburn: History’s Hometown,” at a presentation at the Auburn Holiday Inn in the Seward Room, October 21st to an audience of 40 people.
The presentation highlighted how local businesses and historical sites can promote themselves by utilizing the new slogan in various ways. The repetition of everyone using the same slogan will solidify the fact that Auburn is indeed the fortunate location of a very impressive history. Added to that is our historic sites have been well preserved for future generations, and are enjoying renewed interest from the national exposure surrounding Doris Kearn Goodwin’s “Team of Rivals” book, plus a pending film based on that book.
Also, the Harriet Tubman Home is in the process of partnering with the National Park Service, which will greatly increase traffic to their site and to Auburn.Additional museums, art centers, outdoor recreation, unique small businesses and great restaurants make Auburn an economical, interesting, fun community to visit and explore.
During the presentation, Erin DiVincenzo of Clark CSM Marketing Communications, who created the slogan, shared ideas on how Auburn business can take advantage of this new tool that is simple, eye-catching and effective.
Mary Moore, Director of Sales for Auburn’s Holiday Inn said, “The hotel is going to offer a special history package to promote the new brand. I have already listed “Auburn History's Hometown” on our www.hiauburn.com website with a link.” Nash’s, which offers framing services and art supplies downtown, will be offering a discount to customers that wish to frame their historical prints and family photos for the next month.
Dawn Schulz has her own take on how her restaurant Bistro One can promote the brand. “My husband Marc & I are looking at brewing beer for our restaurant and thought it would tie in perfectly with the brand. I think Auburn may be known for brewing beer in the past, and we'd like to bring that back or honor it as part of "Auburn History's Hometown." In brewing the beer, we'll use Auburn names such as ‘Prison City Pale Ale,’ ‘Copper John Ale,’ and ‘Seward's Folly.’”
