Artist Guidelines
Auburn has seen a great transformation in the past few years that has given this community a renewed hope for a brighter, more colorful future. With that comes the prospect of more activity downtown. We’ve seen evidence of this through the Downtown Summer Music Series, new businesses downtown, increased foot traffic, new streetscapes, the renovation of State Street and Exchange Street and much more.
We hope to build on this momentum by adding large scale, outdoor artwork and sculpture to buildings and open spaces in the downtown area and hopefully throughout all of Auburn. We are looking for an interpretive or abstract sculpture that is green in nature (i.e., made from recycled materials or materials that can be recycled), and based upon the theme of "Auburn: History's Hometown.” The selected artist will have up to five months to complete the sculpture which will be displayed on Exchange Street in downtown Auburn for one year.
Selection Criteria
The Auburn Beautification Commission will select an artist based on submission materials and how they tie into the theme: an interpretive or abstract sculpture that is green in nature (i.e., made from recycled materials or materials that can be recycled), and based upon the theme of "Auburn: History's Hometown.” Each artist will be evaluated on their adaptation, vision, and design of the theme. How the scale and size of the piece fits into the chosen location on Exchange Street.
Application Requirements
Each artist should submit the following pieces:
- Sketch of your envisioned piece
- Narrative explaining the thought behind your sculpture, materials to be used, how you would install in the space and how it relates to the theme.
- Artistic Resume
- References
- Pictures, Slides, or images of previous works
